I’ve always been a Tomboy and a rebellious kid... gave my mom a lot of headaches. From fighting with the boys...to having too much fun with the boys (smile). Many of you may feel the same as I do. Sometimes we love our mom... and sometimes… we wish we could have a different mom! But no matter what, mom is still mom... and we oughta love our one and only MOM.

This is the first article I’ve written about my mom since 2nd grade. Not much has changed since then except that I am now raising a 7th grader myself... and mom? Well... she has certainly gotten a lot more gray hair now. There are so many things that I have learned from my mom. She can always turn junk into useful tools - it never ceases her to find ways to create. As an art teacher for almost 40 years, mom has always inspired me to be creative and to think outside the box. The birth of Azendea was purely a thought to learning how to live more creatively using the natural resources we have to be healthier and live a more balanced life. My mom has been keeping a small organic garden in her backyard for more than two decades. She’s really ahead of her time! Her love for nature has been a tremendous inspiration for me. She makes meals for us from her garden and she beautifies our home with vibrant plants and flowers from her garden of love. Many of our Azendea's photos posted on our social media were powered by my mom’s garden, it means so much to me to incorporate her love of nature into our products. Now,... I know I have not been an easy kid to raise, but I hope my mom knows that I am very grateful and honored to be her daughter.
Mother’s day is approaching and my mom is turning 70. Many of you may have a similar story as mine, I hope you too can share the special memories of your mom and how she has inspired you with your child/children and people you love. For those of you whose moms are in heaven already - keep send loving thoughts to her every day. I am sure she can receive them and will reciprocate her loving thoughts back to you in the warm morning sun and crisp afternoon breeze. Our physical form passes, but our love will connect us forever.

I used to dread Mother’s Day when I was growing up. See, when I was around 11 years old, my two sisters and I decided we would prepare a surprise brunch for my mom. Our idea of a perfect meal consisted of a potato chips with a variety of flavors, cocktail sausages with pineapple pieces, cookies, chocolates, candies, and sodas. Needless to say, my mom wasn’t too impressed. From that year on, Mom decided that we would take her out to Dim Sum every Mother’s Day. Apparently most people had the same idea as my mom (hopefully not after experiencing the same “special treats”). So from then on, on every Mother’s Day, we would spend hours, and I mean hours, waiting for a table for Dim Sum. Often times we didn’t get to eat until well past lunch time.

While I don’t have fond memories of Mother’s Day, I treasure the memories I have of my mom. She has a husband, 4 children, 2 son-in-laws, 2 grand children, 8 siblings, and over 20 nephews and nieces with their extended families. Yet she manages to remember everyone’s birthday year after year. Not only does the woman have super memory, she also has a big heart. She goes to visit the orphanage with my sister regularly, and often spends her time lending help to elderly neighbors and relatives wholeheartedly.
My mom taught me to be humble and be grounded. Doing the right thing doesn’t need to be rewarded – doing the right thing is the right thing to do. She taught me to be grateful to those who helped me, and to always, always remember their support, so I can repay them when opportunity arises. It is upon these that Azendea’s founding principles were built: to have gratitude and show appreciation, and pay it forward whenever we can.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms and mother figures, who are the inspiration to their children and others.
